The Importance of Choosing the Right Sump Pump
Sump pumps are important elements of a dry crawl space solution.
Sump pumps discharge water safely outside your home when the water level rises due to heavy rains or fluctuations in ground water levels.
But not all sump pumps are created equal. Choosing the wrong sump pump can result in serious water damage to your home and possessions when the pump fails or is inadequate to handle the amount of water that needs to be pumped out.
The SmartSump Pump
At Quest Crawl Space Systems, we use only the finest sump pumps from Basement Systems, the leader in basement and crawl space waterproofing technology. The SmartSump pump is built around a high-quality, 1/3 horsepower Zoeller pump that provides superior pumping capacity and dependability. But that's only the beginning.
The Sump Liner
Most sump pumps are designed for use in concrete floors. When an ordinary sump pump is installed directly in the ground in a crawl space home, it will quickly clog with dirt and stop pumping water.
The SmartSump is designed with a liner designed especially for use in crawl spaces that will neither clog nor "short-cycle" due to an insufficient water level in the pump to activate it.
This unique design is the only type that should be used in sump pumps intended to be installed directly into the ground.
The Pump Stand
A sump pump installed directly in the ground needs to be raised above the liner to prevent the pump or the check valve from being clogged by sand or other debris that gets drawn into the liner. If the pump becomes clogged, it will stop pumping. Worse yet, if debris is drawn into the pump, it could cause damage.
That's why the SmartSump uses a specially designed stand to raise the pump above any silt or debris that might otherwise clog or damage the pump or interfere with the proper operation of the check valve.
Airtight Sump Lid with Floor Drain
An airtight lid is an important part of a sump pump designed for a crawl space. Without an airtight lid, moisture from the soil could still evaporate from the water in the pump and get into your home, which would defeat the purpose of encapsulating the crawl space. An airtight lid stops this problem, as well as preventing things from falling in and clogging or damaging the pump.
The lid has a one-way valve in it that allows water to get down into the pump in the event of a plumbing leak. Without this feature, a plumbing leak could transform your encapsulated crawl space into an indoor pool.
Pump Alarm
Because most crawl spaces are infrequently visited, interior plumbing leaks could go undetected for years.
The SmartSump system comes standard with a bettery-powered WaterWatch alarm that will warn you of there's a problem with water coming from above the pump level, which usually indicates a plumbing leak.
Additional Features
Our line of sump pumps include pumps with the following features:
-
WaterWatch® Alarm System, which warns you if the water level in the sump rises past the point where the sump should kick in. This helps guard against accidental unplugging of the pump and other power-related problems.
- Rugged polyethylene SuperLiner™
- Airtight lid prevents water from evaporating into your home, seals out odors, radon, and pests, and prevents foreign objects from falling into the sump hole.
- Airtight Floor Drain keeps damp air from seeping into your home in the event of a plumbing leak.
- IceGuard® Sump Pump Discharge Line System allows water to be pumped even if the main discharge pipe freezes or becomes blocked.
- UltraSump™ Battery Backup Pump (optional) protects your home in the event of a power failure.
Bigger Problems?
If your crawl space has had serious water problems, you may need more than a SmartPump. Crawl spaces with serious and frequent flooding problems need pumps with increased pumping capacity and built-in redundancy.
The TripleSafe is just such a system. The TripleSafe pump is actually three pumps in one:
- A primary pump
- A secondary pump that will automatically turn on if the primary pump fails or can't keep up with the volume of water that has to be removed.
- A battery powered backup pump for when the power goes out, which often happens during major rain storms — just when you need your sump pump most.
So don't settle for an ordinary sump pump. Choose the best. We carry a full line of the sump pumps to handle any situation -- at surprisingly affordable prices.
